Finally, we'll stroll through Sarmiento Park, one of the oldest parks in South America, designed by the French architect Carlos Thays. Overnight stay.
DAY 03 VISIT TO JESUIT STATES
Breakfast at the hotel. Today we will explore the Jesuit legacy in the province of Córdoba.
The Society of Jesus was founded by Saint Ignatius of Loyola in 1540 and became one of the most important Catholic orders. Between 1599, the year of their arrival in Córdoba, and 1767, when the order was expelled by King Charles III of Spain, the Jesuits established a cultural and social system that shaped the development of the province.
On this tour, we head north to visit the Jesuit Estancias, declared World Heritage Sites by UNESCO: Colonia Caroya, Jesús María, and Santa Catalina.
We will explore these impressive Jesuit economic centers, their museums, and churches, located along the old Royal Road to Upper Peru.
The first stop on this excursion is Colonia Caroya. This town is characterized by its large Italian immigrant population, which has left its mark on the artisanal gastronomy of pasta, cheeses, hams, salamis, and winemaking. This Jesuit Estancia dates back to 1616.
We continue our tour and enter the city of Jesús María, passing by the grounds where Argentina's main rodeo and folklore festival takes place. Then we visit the Jesuit Estancia of Jesús María, built in 1618. We tour the museum, which features the archaeological room and the collection of Cusco-style sacred art.
Finally, we arrive at the Jesuit Estancia of Santa Catalina (1622), known for its church, an example of colonial Baroque architecture in Argentina. In its heyday, Santa Catalina became a major center of livestock production with thousands of head of cattle, sheep, and mules.
We return to the city of Córdoba through the Sierras Chicas region. Overnight stay.
